Bledlow Village Cricket Club Saturday 1st v Cublington CC - 1st XI on Sat 28 May 2016 at 1.00pm
Match was Drawn

Match report After last week's washout everybody was raring to go on a thankfully dry Saturday afternoon. Tom won yet another toss and elected to bowl first against a Cublington side that had been struggling to score runs so far this season.

Things started well for Bledlow as James Hawkes picked up an early wicket on his return from university, clean bowling one of the openers with a sharp yorker. The bowlers continued to keep things tight but were unable to make another breakthrough until the skipper took an impressive one handed catch off his own bowling to make the score 90-2. A steady flow of wickets followed, Hawkesy even picking up 2 in 2 balls at one point, but unfortunately so did the runs, with a combination of sloppy fielding and good shot-making from Cublington's main batsman taking the away side to 284-9 from their 53 overs. A ridiculous 70+ runs were scored in the last 5 overs, including 7 of the last 11 balls faced by Cublington's no. 1 batsman going for 6 to leave him on 167 not out.
Bledlow went into the tea break disappointed with their fielding effort but determined to silence a Cublington side who seemed to think that the match was already over.

Olly and Tom started off the innings with aggression, putting bad balls to the boundary when they came about. However Olly didn't last long as he attempted one shot too many and was caught at mid-off with the score on 32. This brought Harry to the crease. He and Tom continued to score quickly until Tom was dismissed chasing a wide one for 33. The Bledlow innings then lost momentum as first Charlie and then Marcus were dismissed without reaching double figures. Victory looked a long way off when Sam came to the crease but his run-a-ball innings of 39 injected some much needed impetus back into the Bledlow chase. Bartlett then took control of the match as he smashed his way to his maiden 1st team century to quieten the previously cocky Cublington fielders. Unfortunately he was out not long after reaching 100 to leave Bledlow 223-8, still needing an unlikely 62 more runs for the win. However, a quickfire 43 run partnership between James Hawkes and Matt Pearce left all 3 results possible going into the last 3 overs. Kingy and Pearcey managed an unbeaten 11 run partnership from the final 18 balls meaning the match ended in a nail biting draw.

Skipper Tom Moore was once again impressed with the character shown by the team to nearly chase down such a big score and hopefully it is a sign of things to come with the bat this season.

Man of the match was Harry Bartlett for his outstanding 109 from 82 balls. We go to Didcot next weekend still top of the table and hoping to return to winning ways.
