Banbury CC - 3rd XI v Bledlow Village Cricket Club Saturday 1st on Sat 16 Jul 2016 at 1.00pm
Bledlow Village Cricket Club Won By 8 Wickets

Match report Last Saturday the 1s made the trip down the M40 to Banbury, turning up to what looked like a quite magnificent batting track. As per usual skipper Moore had no trust in his batting line up and so put Banbury in. With Dave Pearce absent it was time for Hawkes to step up and open the bowling with ‘steady’ Matt Pearce. After a good start from Banbury’s opening pair, Hawkes finally bowled two balls on off stump and reaped the benefits, dismissing the two openers. Banbury batsmen continued to make starts however none managed to push on and build their innings, with obvious pressure being put on them from Lomas and Pearce, forcing rash shots. At 100-5 things were looking good for Bledlow, but some outstanding quick hitting from their number 6, tearing our bowling attack over cow corner ball after ball bought the game back into the balance. Luckily for us the beast was tamed and predictably caught out on the leg side boundary. An impressive 64 from the Banbury number 7 followed as Banbury passed 200. Some good death bowling saw Banbury end on 247 for 9 from their 53 overs. Keeper Bartlett walked off happy knowing they were 120 short of a good total.

After a lovely make your own tea, skipper Moore and O. Woodward made their way out onto the field of play. Some impressive new ball bowling saw skipper Moore trapped LBW early on. As Bartlett strolled out to the middle it was clear Banbury had not been checking the Cherwell website with cries of ‘the tail starts now’ being cried out by their fielders. A pivotal drop while on 10 gave Bartlett and extra life, a drop that will haunt the Banbury mid-wicket for a long time to come. With an influx of half volleys and the Banbury skipper's refusal to put an extra cover in Bartlett put on the gas, while Olly at the other end started to find some lovely form as the innings went on. Both batsman working beautifully together keeping the score board ticking at 6 an over. An ugly rush of blood saw Bartlett caught on 96 giving the opposition a glimmer of hope with the Village still needing 80 to win off 20 overs. The Banbury hope soon perished as W. Woodward joined his brother in what would become a fine closing partnership. The two brothers spraying the bowlers all round the park with Banbury running out of options. The 42nd over bought the end of the match, with O.Woodward finishing on a fantastic 81* while Will ended on 45*, as Bledlow surpassed Banbury’s total.

Another fine performance from the lads, man of the match going to Oliver Woodward for his‘chanceless innings’.
