Didcot CC - 1st XI v Bledlow Village Cricket Club Saturday 1st on Sat 04 Jun 2016 at 1.00pm
Bledlow Village Cricket Club Won By 4 wickets
Match report
Despite getting lost on the way to the ground, forgetting the warm up gear and not partaking in the warm-up, captain Moore won yet another toss and again elected to field on what certainly looked like a damp, bowler friendly pitch.
The boys were raring to go after winning a seemingly vital toss, however the plans of the skipper were sent into turmoil after an injury to Kingy left Bledlow a bowler short.
Didcot got off to a solid start, reaching 25-0, before an over of madness from Matt Bolton produced 3 wickets for no runs. First he nicked off one of the Didcot openers, then a mix up between the two batsman saw number 3 run out for 0, and finally he bowled the next man in first ball. Two more quick wickets followed to leave Didcot reeling at 48-5. An impressive sixth wicket partnership looked like getting the hosts back into the game but a wicket each for Reckers and Tom, supported well by some good catching from Sam and Dan, saw Bledlow back on top with the score 110-7. Some wayward bowling and big hitting saw Didcot's tail get them up to 160 before being bowled out, leaving Bledlow 58 overs to chase down the total.
Tom and Olly went out to bat with 10 overs play left before tea. They managed to get through a tough little session without alarm and were 30-0 when tea was taken. They continued in the same vein after tea before Olly attempted to come back for an over ambitious second run and was narrowly adjudged run out. The score was 60 when Tom was out caught and bowled for a well compiled 24. A tough spell followed for the batsmen as Will and Harry struggled to score against a good combination of spin and seam bowling from Didcot. Will was dismissed for 0, kicking off the nerves in the Bledlow dressing room. Bledlow then lost a further 3 wickets for 40 runs with Harry (31), Bolts (13) and Mudie (0) all getting out to leave Bledlow needing a tricky 50 runs to win with just 4 wickets remaining. However, a counter attacking partnership of 52 between Marcus and Hawkesy saw Bledlow home with 13 overs left. Hawkes ending on 29 and Marcus 17.
Matt Bolton was voted man of the match for his bowling figures of 4-33, dismantling the Didcot top order, setting up the Bledlow win.
Another hard fought win sees Bledlow stay top of the table. They travel to 3rd placed Great Brickhill next week, hoping to keep their unbeaten start to the season going.
