Bledlow Village Cricket Club News story

Chairman's Last Update of the Year

02 Oct 2020

Dear ##firstname##

With this latest monthly news letter, and possibly the last of the year, another season, albeit brief, comes to a close. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has helped the Club, in their own way, this summer.  Special thanks must go to our invaluable volunteers, the committee members and the junior coaches who, along with our loyal members and spectators, scorers, umpires, captains, players, groundsmen and bar staff, have all played their part in helping the club continue and, indeed, move forward, in this most difficult of years.

On the field, we have certainly been competitive in our Saturday league games, despite the ‘regional’ splits and both teams sometimes facing opposition that were a league ahead of them as of last year.  The challenge from here is to look to further build and strengthen our squad so that we can move into the top tier within the next few years.

The cricket may have finished but club life still continues throughout the closed season and we would welcome members to stay actively involved throughout this period.  We are hoping that the Club will continue to open on a Sunday afternoon and we will be assessing the new restrictions and socialising rules to determine whether we are able to make this work. We will keep you advised and will advertise any dates, changes, or indeed events, via our website, email or facebook as always.

We have end of season work parties coming up where everybody can help with a variety of jobs around the ground. These started on Saturday 26th September and will continue through the winter months, with work required on the existing ground equipment, boundary netting and fencing as well as some jobs tied in with our new net project. We have to prepare for the net installation, with the first stage happening during October.  There will be a lot to do, so if you can lend a hand it would be much appreciated.

As always, we re-iterate our thanks to the wider Club ‘family’ and thank you all for your continued support. Given all the restrictions, we assure you that we will do everything we can to continue to provide you with the club facilities that you have come to expect.
