Bledlow Village Cricket Club Lost By 69 Runs

Match report Bledlow were hoping to continue their unbeaten start to the league season as they began an important weekend for the club by hosting Didcot, who narrowly pipped the team to the division 3 title last year.
Tom lost his eight toss in a row a Bledlow were fielding first on a hot afternoon at the Oval. Opening bowlers Matt and Dave Pearce were unable to get early wickets, as they have been so accustomed to doing in recent seasons, as Didcot reached 58-0 in relatively quick time to let Bledlow that they were going to be in for a tough game. Was then removed Didcot's top 3 batsmen in quick succession to get Bledlow back into the game and make the score 70-3. Tom and the fellow bowlers did a good job of keeping the scoring under control throughout the middle overs, but were only able to take a further 2 wickets as the game was in the balance with Didcot 163-5 after 40 overs. The Didcot batsmen the put their feet on the accelerator with optimum impact, achieving a massive 103 runs off the final 10 overs to post an impressive 266-9 from their 50 overs.
Bledlow began their chase confidently until Olly was well caught for 10 in the third over. Harry and Adam then put on a solid 43 before Bartlett dragged a ball back on to his stumps for 24. Bledlow then lost two wickets in two balls as first Mould was caught at deep square leg for an aggressive 54 and then Bolton was questionably adjudged LBW first ball. At 98-4 Didcot were firmly in the driving seat and Bledlow were never able to build up any momentum in their innings from then on, losing wickets at regular intervals. An entertaining 10th wicket partnership of 36 between Was (21) and Lomas (19*) slightly brightened the mood in the Bledlow camp but the innings finished with the score on 197, meaning Bledlow fell to their first defeat of the season.
Fortunately other results went Bledlow's way and so the 13 points picked up were enough to extend their lead at the top of the table. Next week the boys travel to fourth placed Buckingham where they will be hoping to bounce back with their first 50/50 win.
