Bledlow Village Cricket Club News story

Chairman's Update No.6

28 Aug 2020

Dear ##firstname##

We have now reached the sixth monthly update and trust that you remain in good health. Whilst we are still subject to restrictive measures and social distancing, we have managed to resume playing cricket and opened the bar on a reduced hours basis.

We are now reaching the conclusion of our shortened league cricket season and have enjoyed being able to play some competitive cricket, albeit for only 7 or 8 weeks. We also entered the National Village Knockout Cup competition and managed to reach the final for the Buckinghamshire section. Our final league games will be this weekend and we will then continue with friendly fixtures, following the cancellation of Bledfest, well into September. Our last game will be Saturday 19th September.

Junior training sessions continue on a Friday evening and Sunday morning and there have been one or two local games for them to enjoy. We have also welcomed a small group of children, 7 and under, for the AllStars programme. All this and we still continue to observe the restrictions around social distancing, sanitization and hand washing.

We are pleased with the continued success of the ‘alternative’ Club bar and would like to thank all those members for their support and their ongoing patience with the new bar procedures and the signing in. As we move through September towards the end of the cricket season, please check the website for any changes to the opening times.

I am saddened to have to announce that we suffered an incidence of wanton vandalism recently when the new fencing around the covers at the top end of the ground was kicked down. The fence was erected by a group of members, who gave up their time over two weekends and it is sad that this can happen in these times. If anyone saw anything unusual, or any person(s) acting suspiciously around a week ago, we would be pleased to hear from you. We were thankful that the rails didn’t get badly damaged and are pleased to announce that they are back in place. Thanks to Martin and Jen Richardson for resetting them.

We look forward to seeing you in the coming weekends of cricket and appreciate your continued support.

Roger Downes

Chairman
