Chairman's Update 4

03 Jul 2020

Dear ##firstname##

We have now reached our fourth monthly update and we trust that you remain in good health. Whilst these times are still challenging there is, at last, some easing of the restrictive measures bringing us renewed hope of a return to something resembling normality.

As with last month’s update, ECB announcements concentrate on the resumption of international cricket in July and County cricket in August. There continues to be no mention, as yet, about the resumption of grass roots or recreational cricket any time soon. We have seen a return to limited net practice and training, three times a week, as well as Junior training sessions on a Sunday morning. We continue to observe the restrictions around social distancing, sanitization and hand washing and we are required to adhere to strict bookings times but the sessions have been well attended.

We are delighted to announce that, following the relaxation of socialisation and pub opening restrictions, we will be reopening the Club bar on Sunday 5th July, to allow the purchase of alcohol, which can be consumed outside on our outfield. Distancing restrictions will of course continue to apply, but it will be good to see members back at the club in a social capacity. An email announcement regarding the re-opening has already been circulated, along with the conditions that we must adhere to.

As we reported last month that we were in the process of defining a project to improve our training facilities and redevelop and upgrade the current nets and the plans for this project are now on display outside the Club pavilion.

We would like to thank all members who have supported our Spacehive funding initiative, and for which we far exceed our expectations. This webpage has now closed but members can continue to support the club through regular bank transfer, should they so wish. We would like to thank all those who have continued to support the Club through these strange and difficult times.

We continue to wonder whether Bledfest will be able to go ahead this year, and are still hopeful that we may be in a position to be able to stage some form of ‘party event’ towards the end of the year.

We look forward to seeing you in the coming weeks and appreciate your continued support. As always, if you have any other thoughts, questions or ideas please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Roger Downes, Chairman
