Bledlow to start up Social Distancing Cricket Sessions for U11 and U13 players

18 Jun 2020

I am sure that you are all missing our Friday evening training and games with local clubs.

The ECB and Bucks Cricket Board have now released guidelines for Junior players so that limited group sessions can start again.

These sessions will be in groups of up to 5 juniors to 1 coach which will limit us currently to 2 groups of U11 and two groups of U13.

Our plan is to offer these sessions on Sunday mornings for the next 5 weeks on a first come first serve basis using our normal team availability sheets sent out by email.

Parents are requested to stay at the ground during the sessions to help with social distancing and ensure that the ground is vacated in time for the next group to arrive.

You will receive a 'fixture' for each Sunday morning with the U11 sessions starting at 10am (arrive at 9:45am in time for a 10 minute warm up) and ending at 11:00.

The  U13 sessions will start at 11:30am (arrive at 11:20 in time for a 10 minute warm up) and ending at 12:30.

Juniors should bring their own equipment if possible - marked with their names.

We have 4 junior coaches who have volunteered to run these sessions and we are not asking for upfront payment. As you should be aware, the club has launched a crowd funding scheme using Spacehive to support running costs during the pandemic and start to fund new nets for 2021. This runs to the end of June. If you would like to donate please use this link.

It is great that a number of juniors and families are already using our Net Booking system to book the use of the nets on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and Saturdays from 10am.

Check you inbox later today for the 'Coaching Fixtures' on Sunday 21/June and Sunday 28/June.

If you have any questions please contact me.

Stay safe.

2020 Social Distancing Cricket Sessions guidelines

Groups will all be mixed ability - when the juniors are working in pairs try to ensure a pair is made up of similar ability.

Try to ensure each drill challenges / does not challenge too much the different ability levels of the group. (add targets, make these larger or smaller, pace of feed for catching and fielding drills etc.)

· Juniors must keep a 2m distance from each other at all time

· No equipment must be shared

· Each junior will have their own bat for the session and 6 tennis balls (each numbered with their number)

· The bat and 6 balls will need to be laid out before the start of each session (coaches should wear rubber gloves while doing this)

· Each group will have their own tub of tennis balls – balls should not be used for 72 hours after use.

· Bats will have to be wiped down with antibacterial spray after each session.

· Only coaches should touch any other equipment such as stumps and cones (these will need to be cleaned after each session)

Each session is designed to take 75 minutes

Warm Up 10 minutes

Fielding 20 minutes

Batting 20 minutes

Bowling 20 minutes

5 minutes changing around

Currently we cannot play any match type game as the players are not allowed to touch a ball touched by any other player.
