Bledlow Village Cricket Club Saturday 2nd v Cropredy CC - 2nd XI on Sat 07 May 2016 at 1.00pm
Bledlow Village Cricket Club Lost By 6 Wickets
Match report
The league season had finnaly arrived, and everyone was looking in good spirits with great weather for the days cricket ahead.
Marcus captaining until Ben Moore is fit for return won the toss and elected to bat.
Keeno and Dan opening up looked good as they put away plenty of looseners in the first over. After a few quieter overs where Dan hadn't scored he chased a full wide one giving backward point a simple catch. This allowing Marcus to come in with plenty of time in the game, he looked in great form and wasted little time getting to 30 hitting 6 fours then a suspect full toss was punched back to the bowler which he greatfully accepted! (it looked a no ball from where we were). Bloomers looked to be slightly over cautious of the amount of overs left to bat and went for only 4 of 20 balls. In at 5 was Streaks that had only picked up a bat since last season an hour before the game but didnt look bad out in the middle with Keeno, who by they point was cruising along! A 77 run partnership was much needed as well as the time they used up. Streaks was bowled after looking comfortable and Wag in at 6 didn't trouble the scorers going for 0. Toombs came in playing the spinners aggressively despite their fairly consistent in line and length. A good knock from him and another small partnership from the senior pros of the team was helping Bledlow to a respectable total. Reckers tried playing a similar innings while closing in on the 53 overs we had to use, he wasn't quite as effective only going for 12 whilst Keenos fantastic knock ended shortly before with him falling for 92. This meant it was down to 9,10 and 11 to try and add any runs with a handful of overs left, Tanner, Jim and Mark were only able to add one but not allowing Cropredy any of our overs. 207 the final score but perhaps 30 short from where we should of been.
The 2nd half of the game not one i particularly want to write about.
Bledlow took the field feeling good with a satisfactory score on the board,
Reckers and Jim using the new ball.
Reckers started tightly to their opening right/left hand combination as did Jim after his first over. After a dropped chance in slip giving the lefty a lifeline Reckers couldn't hold his line to the left hander and several wides became a problem beating Keeno with the gloves and fine leg unable to cut them off. Replaced by Toombs down the hill he looked promising bowling a probing area most of the time with the odd drag down. Thankfully after the boys dropped far to many chances to allow ourselves to win the game(4 in total i think) Toombsy hung onto two catches off his own bowling, with Wag getting the first catch of the innnings off Jims bowling after 3 had already gone down off of him!
Not much else to say and only a few small positives to take from the bowling & fielding performance. They got themselves in a position where they didnt have to take risks and won the game comfortably.
We will all be back next week and have to give alot more to get results we want!
Keeno a deserved Man Of The Match bought a jug and there was plenty to discuss.
Not the start we wanted but we can start next week and learn from this.
