Bledlow Village Cricket Club Saturday 1st v Blewbury & Wallingford CC - 1st XI on Sat 18 Jun 2016 at 1.00pm
Bledlow Village Cricket Club Won By 2 Wickets

Match report A Bledlow legends XI took to the field after stand in skipper Olly won the toss on an overcast Saturday at the Bledlow Oval.

The opening bowlers Ben Moore and Roger Downes restricted Blewbury & Wallingford's opening batsmen to very few scoring opportunities, with Rog bowling one of them only for it to be called a no-ball. Ben then trapped the opener LBW with the score on 17. The away side continued to acculumate their runs very slowly thanks to some tight bowling and excellent fielding from Bledlow. Usual wicket keeper then came on to bowl and picked up two quick wickets to leave Blewbury 60-3. Rog then returned soon after drinks to claim his first wicket, with Ben taking a good catch in the deep to end a solid 4th wicket partnership. He then found the edge of Blewbury's captain next ball only for Harry Wag to put down the catch behind the stumps. A partnership of 52 followed and looked like taking the game away from Bledlow until a mix up between the batsmen allowed Olly and Ben to combine to complete an easy run out. Harry and Ben managed to polish off the last 5 wickets to leave Bledlow needing a modest 179 for victory.

After tea Bledlow's openers Olly and Andie Wit got off to the worst possible start, both getting out in the first over to leave Bledlow struggling on 2-2. Dan and Harry started the rebuilding process, getting up to 44 before Dan was bowled for a composed 13. Once Ben Moore was dismissed to make the score 71-4, the win looked a long way off. Harry continued to score with freedom and managed to put on good partnership with both Harry Wag and Harsh. Rog came to the crease with the score 123-8, still 56 runs needed for an unlikely victory. However, Harry Bartlett took control of the match, and when he reached his hundred the win started to look possible. Rog continued to keep out the bowling and allowed Harry to smash Bledlow to a remarkable victory, Harry finishing on 131 not out, having put on an unbeaten 61 for the 9th wicket with Rog who battled his way through 20 balls without scoring.

A great effort from everybody involved, especially the players who were playing after going a number of years without playing a competitive match, they certainly didn't look out of place in the field.

The win takes Bledlow back to the top of the table, with a long trip to Shipton under Wychwood next Saturday.
