Bledlow Village Cricket Club Saturday 2nd v Sandford St Martin CC 2nd XI on Sat 06 Jun 2015 at 1.00pm
Bledlow Village Cricket Club Won By 14 runs
Match report
With the opposition captain losing the toss, Olly elected to bat first with what on paper looked like one of the stronger batting line ups he has had available to him so far this season.
Sanford St Martin travelled over to Bledlow for the division 6 fixture with just 9 men and were sent out into the field.
With Olly and Keeno opening up I didn't expect too many quick singles to exploit their gaps in the field but that was the least of Bledlows worries, Keeno getting a swinging yorker he couldn't keep out meant Bledlow were 1 down early on. Having opted to bat first we had given our selfs an issue of batting 53 overs which we haven't looked like doing in 2 innings so with keeno out early we were hoping it wasn't a sign of things to come! Unfortunately it was! Trac was only able to make 6 and use a handful of overs up coming in at 3.
Manan, Dan and Hawksey only able to add 2 runs between them the best batting line up we have had was all of a sudden in trouble and the 9 men of Sandford grew louder and more confident with the ball! Ben Moore and Reckers managed to put a small stand together before Ben unluckily chopped a wide one onto his foot and back onto his stumps leaving the rest down to Sam, Luke and Rog to add what they could with Reckers not lasting much longer playing a poor shot in the circumstances. The tail done their best adding a few and staying out there to allow the extras to keep flowing (just as well)
Bledlow all out for 112 off 25.4 overs gave Sandford a chance for 25 points with just 9 men.
Bledlow took the field with about an hour and 15 still to play before tea!
Ben and Hawksey given the new ball the team always believed we could get the wickets we needed!
They both started off bowling very tight with one opener trying to take Ben on a few times before being shouted at by his team mates from the pavilion. Well they did have 74 overs to get 112!
Hawksey bowling a tight line to there opening Lefty who you could tell didn't like his pace and it wasn't long before Hawksey had him as his first wicket. The wickets came fairly regularly for Ben who finished with 4 and Hawksey with 3, Olly managed a run out before their number 4 and 8 put on a good partnership to take them close to their target.
Olly bringing Hawksey and Ben back from opposite ends this time after some tight overs from Rog and Andy but neither could get the remaining 2 wickets we needed. Finally with Hawksey back on down the hill he got his man LBW bringing in the number 9 and last batsman who didn't last much longer before he was beaten by James's pace.
A very tight game and credit to Sandford for a good effort with 9 men.
But Bledlow happily take the 25 points and hopefully this will kickstart our season!
