Buckingham Town CC 2nd XI v Bledlow Village Cricket Club Saturday 1st on Sat 17 Jun 2017 at 12.30
Bledlow Village Cricket Club Won By 10 Runs
Match report
On the hottest Saturday of the year so far, Bledlow travelled to Buckingham looking to bounce back from last Saturday's defeat. Tom won a seemingly important toss and elected to bat first on the dry Buckingham pitch.
The new opening partnership of Bolts and Olly got off to a good start, scoring 36 off the first 7 overs before Olly was out LBW for 18. Will, batting at 3 because Bartlett was still asking the residents of Buckingham for directions to the ground, was out for just 5 thanks to a great catch at point. An excellent couple of partnerships then put Bledlow in control as first Bolts and Downes put on a superb 72 runs, and then Downes and Bartlett added a quick fire 62 to leave Bledlow 175-4 when Downes was bowled for 66. The innings then stagnated slightly as Bartlett (44), Mudie (1) and Hawkes (0) were all dismissed in quick succession with the score 200-7. It was left to captain and vice captain, Tom and Pearcey, to steer Bledlow to a competitive score of 263 thanks to an excellent partnership of 59, with Tom finishing on 58 not out.
Buckingam then got off to a good start, with none of the seamers managing to pick up early wickets, reaching 75-0 in good time. Once the spin of Bolts was introduced things began to happen for Bledlow, with both of the opening batsmen succumbing in the same over. It was then trial by spin as Bledlow tried to put the squeeze on the Buckingham middle order. Bolts then picked up his third wicket, caught at point by Pearcey, to put Bledlow on top in the late afternoon heat. The partnerships continued to come for Buckingham however, frustrating an ever tiring Bledlow fielding side. The introduction of Will into the bowling attack proved a masterstroke as he struck early in his spell, a full toss was smashed straight up and Bartlett took a simple catch. Hawkesy then removed Buckingham's number 6 in his first over but it was the number 4 batsman at the other end that was going to be the key to the chase. The big wicket came with the score on 176 as the number 4 skied an attempt slog over mid wicket off Will's bowling and Hawkesy claimed the catch to the delight of the Bledlow team. Will then picked up two further wickets in quick succession as Buckingham tried to keep up with the required rate. It then appeared that Will had completed his five wicket haul as Bartlett whipped the bails off with the batsman out of his ground, only for the umpire to turn down the 'appeal', much to the disgust of the whole Bledlow team. However, despite a good 9th wicket partnership, it didn't prove to be costly thanks to some good bowling in the final few overs, with Bledlow winning by 10 runs.
A number of good individual performances made sure that Bledlow got over the line in a close game to maintain their lead at the top of the table. Leighton Buzzard are the visitors to Bledlow next Saturday in a top of the table clash, another win would ensure that Bledlow would be top at the halfway stage of the season.
