Bledlow Village Cricket Club Saturday 1st v Didcot CC - 1st XI on Sat 06 Aug 2016 at 1.00pm
Bledlow Village Cricket Club Lost By 9 Wickets

Match report Second placed Didcot arrived at the Bledlow Oval for the biggest game of the season so far on a perfect day for cricket. Tom lost another toss but was happy when the opposition captain elected to bowl first on what looked like a typically flat Bledlow pitch.

Olly and Tom made their way to the middle intent on getting Bledlow off to a good start. Things were going well until Olly was adjudged LBW for 9 with the score on 19. Tom and Harry then both fell in quick succession to the the hosts struggling on 43-3. An excellent counter attacking partnership between Will and Bolts looked like putting Bledlow on top in the match until Will was bowled for a free flowing 38. Charlie then came in and continued the momentum, taking the score to 192 before he was out caught in the deep for 36. Bledlow's momentum then stalled and despite an excellent 70 from Matt Bolton and a solid 18 from debutant Reg, having been dropped on his first ball, Bledlow were bowled out in 50.2 overs for 231. The score certainly seemed competitive but Bledlow were disappointed not to make more of what was a very flat pitch.

After tea Bledlow were on the hunt for early wickets through opening bowlers Pearce and Bolton. Unfortunately the Didcot openers were not in the mood to give their wickets away, playing very sensibly and putting away the bad deliveries. Matt Bolton struck with the score 50-1 and Bledlow seemed to be back in the match. However, Didcot built another partnership which the Bledlow bowlers were unable to break. A couple of dropped chances late on compounded Bledlow's misery as both of the visiting batsmen cashed in and eventually brought up their hundreds in the same over. It wasn't much longer before the match was over and Didcot had won by 9 wickets, overtaking Bledlow at the top of the table.

Bledlow's second defeat in as many home games certainly indicates that improvements need to be made if they are to continue their promotion push.

Next week Great Brickhill will be welcomed to the Bledlow Oval, hoping for revenge after the narrow loss to them earlier in the season.
