Bledlow Village Cricket Club Lost By 182 runs

Match report Captain Tom lost the toss and Horley elected to bat first on what looked like a typically flat Bledlow pitch.

Bledlow were unable to take the early wickets which have been key to their early season success and so Horley were quickly on top, despite not scoring too quickly. They reached a steady 69 before Matt Bolton made the breakthrough, bowling the visiting opener through the gate. When the score was 131-4, thanks to two more wickets from Bolton and one from Bartlett, Bledlow looked as if they were back in the game, however two quick scoring partnerships of 88 and 68 accelerated the Horley innings, making the most of some wayward bowling and below par fielding to post a large score of 288-8. Matt Pearce was able to take 3 wickets during the last over of the innings to end with respectable figures of 4-61.

Bledlow lost early wickets with both Moore and Bartlett perishing for single figures in an attempt to keep up with the required rate. A solid partnership of 58 between Bolton and O Woodward slowed the Horley momentum but once Olly was out with the score on 87 a Bledlow victory seemed very unlikely. The remaining 7 wickets fell for just 19 runs, all to spin, as the Bledlow batsmen failed to cope with the pressure put on them by the visitors.

A humiliating 182 run defeat was deserved punishment for a poor all round performance. It may just prove to be the wake up call the team needed going in to the promotion run in.

Next Bledlow travel to Cublington looking to bounce back and strengthen their position at the top of the table.
