Tiddington CC - 2nd XI v Bledlow Village Cricket Club Saturday 1st on Sat 07 May 2016 at 1.00pm
Bledlow Village Cricket Club Won By 57 Runs

Match report Tom won the toss in his first league game as captain and elected to bat first on a very hot Saturday afternoon. Olly and Tom walked out to bat with the excitement for the new season clear to see amongst the team. Things got off to a fairly decent start, with the openers looking untroubled until Olly was bowled by a ball that jagged back with the score on 25. Matt Bolton looked in fine touch at 3, making the most of the loose deliveries on offer before he was harshly adjudged out LBW for 27. Tom was the next man out for a well compiled 33, not letting the captaincy affect his batting, despite a stressful wait for Harry Bartlett to turn up just before the start of the game. A number of poor dismissals followed as the Tiddington spinners were gifted regular wickets by the middle order. When Harry Bartlett was out with the score 153-7 and 20 overs left to bat Bledlow looked in danger of not batting their allotted overs. However the lower order, especially Sam Mudie and James Basu, were able to dig us out of a hole by batting up until the 51st over and taking the score to 220. Both Sam and James, the latter barely able to run due to an injury, showed incredible maturity and match awareness given their inexperience to leave us with a relatively good score going into the break.

A superb tea provided the Bledlow boys with the energy to try and defend the score we had set. The opening partnership of Matt and Dave Pearce quickly set about dismantling the Tiddington top order with Matt picking up two wickets in two balls. Dave also got into the act, removing the remaining opener with a great ball that cut back from outside of off stump to bowl him middle stump. Both bowlers picked up a further wicket each as the home side seemingly continued to try, in vein, to hit every ball bowled to the boundary. This left Tiddington reeling at 50-5. The match seemed to be Bledlow's for the taking but two excellent partnerships took the score to 151-6. The momentum was slowly shifting towards to newly promoted side before an unbelievable leg-side stumping from wicket-keeper Harry Bartlett off Kingy's bowling put Bledlow on course for victory. Kingy quickly cleaned up the tail to give Bledlow an excellent win in what was a great game.

A great team performance in the field secured the win and we will hopefully take that, along with improvements with the bat, into our next game and the rest of the season.
